H.E.L.P. — Health Environmental Learning Program

Literacy

H.E.L.P. teaches reading, writing, and basic math to adults and children in rural Nepal. Literacy is the foundation for every other program H.E.L.P. offers — from starting a business to understanding health information.

Proverbs 4:7, "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding."

Literacy Classes

H.E.L.P. literacy classes are held in villages throughout the Himalayas. Classes are taught by local facilitators who have been trained by H.E.L.P. staff. The curriculum covers reading, writing, and basic math in the local language.

Impact of Literacy

Starting a Business

After learning basic math principles in H.E.L.P. literacy classes, people are able to start their own businesses and manage their finances.

Understanding Health Information

Literate community members can read health materials, understand medicine labels, and make informed decisions for their families.

Helping Children Learn

Parents who are literate can help their children with schoolwork and encourage education as a path out of poverty.

A Story of Change

Before H.E.L.P. literacy classes, I could not read or write. Now I can read the Bible, help my children with their homework, and keep records for my small business.
